Ulysses Quartet and Oskar Espina Ruiz, Clarinet

Ulysses Quartet and Oskar Espina Ruiz, Clarinet In-Person

The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon, in collaboration with Music Mountain, is thrilled to introduce a free Sunday at 3pm classical music concert series. This winter, immerse yourself in three exceptional performances featuring renowned and emerging musicians. The concerts will take place in the newly restored Hotchkiss Library of Sharon at 10 Upper Main Street in Sharon.

Oskar Espina Ruiz has been described by the press as a “masterful soloist” (La Nación, Costa Rica) and a “highly expressive clarinetist” (Nevskoye Vremia, Russia). He has performed at major concert halls and festivals to high critical acclaim, including concerto performances at the Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia, and recitals in New York City, Washington DC, Moscow, Madrid, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. He has appeared as soloist with the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony (Russia), St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic (Russia), Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Ciudad de Asunción (Paraguay) and Bilbao Symphony (Spain).

The Ulysses Quartet has been praised for their “textural versatility,” “grave beauty” and “the kind of chemistry many quartets long for, but rarely achieve” (The Strad). Founded in 2015, the group won the grand prize and gold medal in the senior string division of the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and first prize in the 2018 Schoenfeld International String Competition. The quartet’s members hail from Canada, the United States and Taiwan. They have performed in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Jordan Hall, the Picasso Museum in Málaga and Washington’s National Gallery of Art. The group’s name pays homage to Homer’s hero Odysseus and his 10-year voyage home.

The Guild, the library's volunteer organization, extends a warm invitation to all lovers of music, books, and culture. Concert seating is very limited and registration is required, beginning January 3rd  for the first concert.
